ABOUT ABOUT

SPEEDY, of Bongo Maffin, Performing Live in Washington, DC,

August 19, 2017   SATURDAY      10pm - 4am

Speedy’s career started in 1996 as a member of the world-renowned, award-winning Afro-Pop group Bongo Maffin, which includes other household names like Stoan Seate, Jah-Seed and the award winning Thandiswa Mazwai. At the top of Bongo Maffin popularity the band members went separate ways. Speedy embarked on a solo journey which saw him compose and publish several albums through his own company: Speedy Records

In 2009, Speedy left his critics speechless when he collaborated with former band-mate Stoan Seate. They went on to release an album called Second Son Rise, a project branded a master-piece by critics and admirers alike. The album, which featured the hit singles Letsatsi-Le and Never Burn Out, rode a wave of success. With Mzansi radio stations as their playground. Print and Online media didn’t lag behind either, as the twosome graced every second paper on sale, for all the right reasons.

The highlight of Speedy’s career however, came when he teamed up with Kwaito juggernaut, Professor, where he featured in the hit single, Lento. The hit which almost became a national anthem, hailed from an album which scooped two METRO FM Music Awards and three South African Music Awards. Not long afterwards, Speedy’s solo project resurfaced with a single called Dressed to kill – a song that set dance floors on fire. Radio stations such as METRO FM, Good Hope FM, East Coast Radio, YFM and others had the song rotating on their playlist for what seemed like eternity. Countries such as Namibia also followed suit, with a swelling fan-base.

Speedy continues to work with some of the biggest names in the business.  He has opened up for • Sisqo- Arts Alive concert • Kenny Lattimore, Chaka Khan, Dru-Hill and Stevie Wonder • Bongo Maffin has toured Paris in 1999, the United States in 2001, and in 2003 & performed at the Nelson Mandela 46664 concert in Cape Town with Beyoncé, just to name a few.  He excite's us with new music such as his newest hits Impumelelo & JikiJela, a true artist who loves what he does and appreciates his fans.  He loves to make music for people to enjoy.
